چکیده

The objective of this study was to determine the effect of different forage to concentrate ratios for fattening of Lohi lambs. For this purpose, 75 lambs were randomly divided into 3 groups A, B and C, with 25 lambs in each group. Berseem fodder was supplemented with concentrate at different ratios (forage to concentrate) as 75:25, 50:50 and 25:75 and fed to groups A, B and C, respectively for a period of 66 days. The feed intake of lambs of group C (1938 ± 135g) was the highest, followed by group A (1723 ± 156g) and group B (1628 ± 152g). Daily body weight gain averaged 105 ± 12, 144 ± 09 and 168 ± 14g and feed conversion ratio averaged 16.41, 11.30 and 11.53, for groups A, B and C, respectively. Statistically, differences in feed intake, daily weight gain and feed conversion ratio among lambs of three groups were significant (p<0.05). Dressing percentage averaged 46.80 ± 1.5, 46.93 ± 1.4 and 48.88 ± 1.5 for the respective diets. Dressing percentage was higher (p<0.05) in group C compared to groups A and B, however, no difference was observed between the latter two groups. Similarly, no differences were found in percent of crude protein, fats and total ash in carcasses of all three groups. Feed cost for one kg body weight gain averaged Rs.74, 61 and 55 for groups A, B and C respectively. These results indicated that forage to concentrate ratio of 25:75 is most appropriate for economical mutton production form Lohi lambs.

Effect of Dietary Crude Protein Level on UT-B Expression and Nitrogen Efficiency in Growing Baluchi Male Lambs Fed Low or High Concentrate Diets

An experiment was carried out to evaluate how interactions between forage to concentrate ratio and dietary crude protein level may alter nitrogen efficiency and UT-B expression in growing Baluchi male lambs. Four Baluchi male lambs [30 ± 2 kg BW] were used in a 4 × 4 latin square design with 28-d periods and a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement of dietary treatments. The treatments fed forage: concent...

Effect of Different Levels of Live Yeast in a High Concentrate Diet on Performance, Blood Constituents and Immune System Status of Zandi Lambs

A feeding trial with twenty-seven male weaned Zandi lambs (initial body weight 27.1±0.38 kg) was conducted to evaluate the effect of different levels of Saccharomyces cerevisiae SC47 in diet containing high concentrate (85%) on the growth performance, blood parameters and immune system status. Lambs were allocated to one of three treatment diets in a completely randomized design with 3 replicat...

Approaches to the Level and Quality of Forage in Feedlot Diets for Lambs

Diets with low forage concentration may depress feed intake and average daily gain, while diets with high forage concentration may limit feed intake due to rumen filling. Adequate forage level may range from 7% to 14% in ration for feedlot lambs, depending on forage source and ingredient composition. Small amounts of good quality forage may improve growth performance of sheep in the first stage...

The Optimum Energy Density in Diets for Lori-Bakhtiari Lambs during a Fattening Program

Forty growing ram lambs (Lori-Bakhtiari breed) averaging 28 kg (±1.5) were allocated in this study to evaluate the optimal dietary energy density in a lamb fattening enterprise in Iran. The feed intake (FI), body weight (BW), gain to feed ratio (G:F) and carcass characteristics were studied. Four treatments differed in metabolizable energy content (ME) as follow; 2, 2.3, 2.6 and 2.9 Mcal/kg for...
